The Lions Academy
On Friday 5th July 2013 we introduced the Nottingham Lions Academy for players aged 9-17 years, based at the National Ice Centre.
“Striving For Excellence” is the main focus and we aim to provide a unique opportunity to elite Nottingham Ice Hockey Club (NIHC) players to further develop and nurture their hockey skills by educating, challenging and enhancing every aspect of their play – supporting them in reaching their individual potential both on and off the ice.
Another of The Academy’s aims is to complement and build on the coaching the players receive from their own team coach within the NIHC and support them in reaching their goals.
Players have been selected by their own team coaches and scouted by the Lions Coaches to work alongside other players from other age groups within the NIHC in a professional, enthusiastic and positive environment.
Head Coach Matt Bradbury was pleased how things have progressed as the Academy approaches its 5th year of existence, saying;
“The Academy is really enabling us to work with the players as they come through the ranks of the NIHC, this is the platform for us to see those players grow and in time when they reach the age of 16 if they are in the right place with their skillset, fitness and attitude we can look to introduce them into the Lions Senior Squad. The Academy sessions run from the beginning of July through to the end of May each year.”
“It’s exciting each week to see the confidence and improvements with each players skill set. Having the players on the ice for an extra hour per week carrying out high intensity drills is really enhancing them further and paying off when going back to work with their teams in the club.”
“We continue to provide the best opportunity to the Nottingham players helping them to “Strive To Excellence!” – It’s exciting times for everyone involved.”
We are pleased to announce Internet Motor Parts as the new headline sponsor to the Academy this year and we are grateful for their support with the development of junior players in Nottingham. Their company logo will take pride and place on the 2018-19 Academy shirts.
