Nottingham Lions earned a workmanlike victory over local rivals the Coventry Blaze on Saturday night at the Skydome. Head Coach Matt Bradbury spoke to nottinghamlions.co.uk to give us his early reaction to the team picking up their latest two league points.
"It was top versus bottom in the league which means nothing in this league as its always depends which team turns up on the day. Coventry is always a tricky place to go - the ice doesn't particularly suit our style of play but there were huge steps made by certain players that was really pleasing."
I thought our 4 under 18's players (Pywell, Jackson, Raynor and Humphries) really stood out and played like real old heads. We have to utilise these young players correctly to get the most out of them in the long run, they play with a lot of confidence and need to take opportunities like these when they come along. To see Pywell get his first goal was excellent, for the smallest guy on the team he took some big knocks but he kept coming back for more, I feel sure we'll see a lot more from him.
"We looked composed on the puck and didn't lose a period all night. It was nice to see Tom (Hovell) showing us what he can do - he played a strong game and that was great to see as he filled the team with confidence.
"As always lots to work on in training and we go back at it again on Thursday night."
