Billingham Stars 4 Nottingham Lions 2
The Lions were unable to repeat their heroics of last November as they fell 4-2 to the Billingham Stars at the TFM Radio Arena on Sunday night.
At the end of the first period a repeat performance did look possible as Nottingham found themselves a goal to the good thanks to Michael Rose (04.25).
The home side got themselves back into the game in the second, courtesy of Cal Davies (27.20) leaving a 1-1 scoreline heading into the third.
The Lions couldn’t hold on against the league leaders in the final period, finding themselves 3-1 down with nine minutes to go – Simon Hehir (47.22) and Andrew Fletcher (51.19) giving the Stars a two-goal cushion. Marcus Maynard gave the Lions hope with three minutes left on the clock (56.58) but James Moss finished matters just a minute later (58.00) to put the game out of the Lions’ reach.
The Lions’ attention now turns to next Sunday (15th January) as they take on an improving Telford Titans team at the NIC (7.15pm Face-Off).
Michael Rose 1+0, Marcus Maynard 1+1, Gareth O’ Flaherty 0+2, Joe Wightman 0+1.
